The West Cheshire Wheelchair Service is required to move to a new site.
Reason for the move
Stanney Lane Clinic is scheduled for demolition, so all services must move – this is part of the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities regeneration works in Ellesmere Port.
We’re relocating temporarily to ensure the service can continue safely and without disruption. The move is up to six months and the service will starts offering appointments at the new location from Friday 2 January 2026.
New temporary location
The service will be moving to Catherine’s Health Centre in Birkenhead.
St Catherine’s Health Centre provides a range of NHS services, including the Wheelchair Service for Wirral residents, situated on the lower ground floor. There is a café on the ground floor in the atrium and people can park in the dedicated Wheelchair Service car park.
Key points of the move include:
- More appointment options – we will be offering a wider choice of appointment times.
- Improved facilities – modern clinic area designed to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone.
- Faster equipment handovers – better access to additional stock.
- Easier parking – there will be a dedicated car park just for Wheelchair Service users.
- Direct travel routes for some patients – the new location offers easier routes, especially for people travelling from rural areas.
Address: St Catherine’s Health Centre, Derby Road, Birkenhead CH42 0LQ
The move will not affect the care people receive and service users will see the same team and continue to access the same range of services eg assessments, repairs, and reviews.
Information sharing opportunities
We want to make sure people are fully informed about the move and have the chance to share their thoughts, ask questions, and find out more about what it means for them.
The team will facilitate a series of information sharing events with service users to ensure a smooth transition. They are an opportunity to learn more about the new location and tell us what matters most. The sessions will take place over several months to give people the opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences as well as asking questions. The first two sessions will take place online:
- Tuesday 16 December 2025, 1.00pm
- Tuesday 16 December 2025, 6.00pm
If you plan to attend one of the events, please let us know (by text, email or phone – see below) and we will share the joining link with you.
