Congratulations to Team WCHC. This week we have been accredited as a Veteran Aware NHS Trust.
This means we been formally recognised as Veteran Aware by the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), a group of NHS healthcare providers in England committed to providing the best standards of care for the armed forces community in England, based on the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise by the nation to ensure that those who serve, or who have served, in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
The VCHA aim is to develop, share and drive best practice to improve armed forces and veterans care, ensure Armed Forces Communities are treated fairly and do not face disadvantages, and support veterans to find new careers in the NHS.
In June 2022 we signed the Armed Forces Covenant, and in February this year we achieved our Bronze Defence Recognition Award, so this is a great next step in our journey to build on our commitment to be an organisation which supports our armed forces community as both a healthcare provider and as an employer.
