The children’s nasal spray flu vaccine is safe and effective. It is offered every year to children to help protect them against flu.
Flu is caused by the influenza virus. It can be a very unpleasant illness for children. It can also lead to serious problems, such as bronchitis and pneumonia.
Children can catch and spread flu easily. Vaccinating them also protects others who are vulnerable to flu, such as babies and older people.
The school-age immunisation team works with all schools across Wirral to help protect children against flu. The team deliver the nasal spray flu vaccine to school-age children whose parents and carers have consented.
Parents and carers must consent to their child having the nasal flu vaccine. Consenting to your child’s nasal spray flu vaccine is easy.
When your child is due a vaccine in school, all parents and carers will receive a link to the e-consent form. This will be sent via email or text from your child’s school. Upon receiving the link, you can complete the form and click submit. You will then receive an email confirming consent, and the immunisation team will administer the vaccine in school.
The electronic consent process is secure and convenient. You can also access the consent form via our website: www.wchcimms.co.uk/Forms/Flu
The team also offer community clinics for children and young people educated at home, not currently in school, and those who may have missed vaccinations in school.
