On Friday evening, 6 October 2023, Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (WCHC) welcomed nearly 300 colleagues, partners and sponsors to celebrate and recognise the amazing work of teams across the Trust, with the Pavilion Suite at Chester Racecourse as the backdrop for this special occasion
Hosted by BBC North West Tonight’s Roger Johnson, it was a fantastic evening celebrating and recognising the outstanding care, treatment and support that the Trust delivers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in the communities across Cheshire and Merseyside.
The awards opened with Excellence in Care which was won by the Community Specialist Palliative Care Team who always go above and beyond, continuously using the feedback they receive to make improvement in the service.
Millie Williams, Service Development Co-ordinator, won Excellence in Inclusion for setting a shining example for all staff, encouraging us to embrace diversity, challenge our biases and create an environment where everyone feels accepted and appreciated.
The Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Team picked up our Excellence in Quality Improvement award by working to improve the pathway for children waiting for a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder.
The Community Integrated Response Team (CIRT) were delighted to win Excellence in Partnership Working for the work they have done on the Virtual Frailty Ward and Home First services with local partners.
Excellence in Leadership went to our Head of Learning and Organisational Development Liz Pritchard who was praised for her supportive leadership approach and use of coaching skills to empower staff.
Two outstanding individuals were awarded Unsung Hero. Maddie O’Loughlin from the Community Specialist Palliative Care Team whose team said she always has her patients’ best interests at heart and makes such a difference to their lives. Viv Harrison, Response Nurse with over 40 years’ service to the NHS had returned to practice after retiring in 2017, taking on many different roles across the Trust.
This year there were two Chair and Chief Executive awards which recognised the extraordinary effort and achievement of an individual or team. This year’s winners were the 0-25 Knowsley service and Sharon Clunn, Deputy Director of Contracts and Commissioning.
The final and most coveted award of the evening, the People’s Choice Award was won by MSK Physiotherapy and Pelvic Health Team.
It was a magnificent evening celebrating the amazing work that goes on at Team WCHC and thanking those who achieved Long Service Awards for 25 and 40 years dedication to the NHS.
