My name is Liz Lyons, and I am the Social Prescriber within the Long Covid Service.
As a social prescribing link worker, I support service users by identifying and linking in with sources of support across the community. These non-medical referral options can complement existing medical treatments to improve health and wellbeing.
My role is to give people a chance to talk, listen to them carefully, offer emotional and practical support and provide them with the advice, information and support they need whatever their worries, questions, or concerns.
I really enjoy being part of the team and getting to know my colleagues and their different roles. It’s been really encouraging to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that are so generous with their time and support. I feel proud of how far the clinic has come in a short period of time and the service we are now able to offer people.
Most of all I have found my interaction with the people who I see and speak to at the clinic the most rewarding part of the job. It has been humbling to hear their stories and given me great personal satisfaction to play some small part in assisting their recovery and supporting them with their health and wellbeing, during such a challenging time in their lives.
