Clinical photography of your wound(s) is taken so healthcare professionals involved in your care can see if your wound(s) is healing as planned or getting worse.
Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust has a duty to protect your privacy and interests by giving you relevant information relating to why clinical photography of your wound(s) is needed. This will allow you to make an informed choice about how this image is used.
Clinical photography that is taken for treating or assessing your wound(s) will not be used for any other purpose than your healthcare journey. These images will not be used without seeking consent from yourself first, and a full discussion held as to why we need to undertake clinical photography.
Clinical photography is always taken on equipment provided by our Trust. Any images taken will only be shared via secure NHS networks and those involved in your care. Clinical photography forms part of your medical records. You have the right to have a copy your own medical records on application. We have a responsibility to share clinical photography with healthcare professionals involved in your shared care journey when formally requested to do so. Clinical photography of your wound(s) is stored within your own patient clinical record, with access only granted to healthcare professionals who wish to review the photographs on a need-to-know basis. Clinical images will remain within your clinical records as they
form part of your overall medical records.
All healthcare professionals will ensure that every effort is made to maintain your dignity, and we can assure that only the wound area will be exposed in the photograph. All other surrounding areas will be fully covered up and the only patient identifiable information displayed in the clinical image will be your own personal NHS number.
