Wheelchairs provided by the Wirral and West Cheshire Wheelchair service are not routinely tested or approved for the fitting of power packs, power assisted wheels or stair climbing devices.
Should you wish to fit any of these devices you must ensure the equipment is compatible and the device is fitted by a suitable qualified individual (preferably the supplier).
The supplier/fitter of the device is responsible for ensuring that the device and the wheelchair are compatible in accordance with the Medical Devices Directive.
When fitting power packs it is important that the following conditions are met:
- The combined weight of the device fitted and the occupant must not exceed the weight carrying capacity of the wheelchair.
- The attendant/ user must receive appropriate training in the use of the device from the supplier/fitter.
The Wheelchair Service will not exchange a wheelchair to suit the fitting of power packs, power assisted wheels or stair climbing devices.
You may be liable for any costs for repair/replacement of the wheelchair that are due to the fitting or use of any of these devices.
The Wheelchair Service is unable to offer advice on the choice of suitable devices and accepts no responsibility for any injury or damages sustained from the fitting of or use of devices fitted to our
wheelchairs.
