A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of your urinary system — your kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Urinary tract infections cause a significant burden of infections in our older people and a high rate of hospital admissions. This can be improved by implementing some relatively simple measures.
Urine dipping (urinalysis) should not be undertaken in those aged over 65 years and those with a urinary catheter (see dipstick poster).
