Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the organism Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It usually presents as a chronic disease of the respiratory tract but may also affect other organ systems.
TB is spread by inhalation of infectious droplets, which may be coughed or sneezed by a case of pulmonary tuberculosis. People with TB in organs other than the respiratory tract (extra-pulmonary tuberculosis) or with latent TB are rarely infectious to others.
