International Infection Prevention Week shines a light on infection prevention each year.
The campaign focusses on a different theme each year:
- The fundamentals of infection prevention (2023). 15-21 October 2023 is International Infection Prevention Week, shining a light on infection prevention and reminding us of the fundamentals for effective infection prevention to include:
- Hand hygiene
- Cleaning and disinfection
- Vaccination
- Personal protective equipment
- Respiratory hygiene (catch it, bin it, kill it)
- Injection safety

- Keeping ourselves and others safe (2021) – the focus for the campaign was to keep safe from Covid-19 and other viruses such as flu and Norovirus, reminding people of the part they play in infection prevention.
- The Future is Infection Prevention (2022) – this campaign inspired others to join the fight against infection and highlighted the many ways people can get involved. It reminded everyone of the simple steps to take to help stop the spread of infection.
