HelpLink Community Support and Age UK Wirral, two completely local and independent Wirral charities, have announced this week that they are set to merge on 1st January 2021 to create a single charity focussed primarily on supporting local older and vulnerable people and carers across Wirral.
As a result of the merger, the HelpLink team will move across to Age UK Wirral and combine with Age UK Wirral’s practical support team to provide a single point of contact service providing help with transport, befriending, shopping, prescription collection, small odd jobs and much more.
Peter Barton, Chair of HelpLink Community Support said ‘We are very excited that the merger of HelpLink into Age UK Wirral not only ensures the sustainability of HelpLink’s vital services to our clients, but it also provides them with the a much greater range of other supportive services through Age UK Wirral. We are so grateful to all our volunteers and hope they will continue to offer their tireless support, which will remain under the HelpLink name but now as a part of Age UK Wirral’.
Jamie Anderson, Chief Executive at Age UK Wirral said ‘We are very excited about the impact for local people of this merger. By bringing our staff and volunteer teams together, along with our combined 100+ years’ experience of working in Wirral communities, we can make best use of all of our resources to focus on providing the essential social and practical supports that, particularly in view of what we have all experienced this year, are so vital for local people.
As we welcome HelpLink colleagues into Age UK Wirral, we will not only be maintaining all the existing support both organisations currently deliver, but also working with everyone to identify opportunities to further develop and extend our work‘.
