
Video consultations are as convenient as a phone call, with the added value of face-to-face communication. They are secure – your privacy is protected. You have your own private video consultation room that only your clinician and chaperone or interpreter, if applicable, can enter.
They can save you from coming into clinic. You can speak to your clinician from the comfort of your own home via a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. You do not need to create an online account for your video consultation and no personal information is stored.
If we think that it’s best to see you face-to-face in our clinic, don’t worry – we will book you a clinic appointment.
We are currently using two systems to carry out video consultations;

What do I need to access a video consultation?
A good connection to the internet. If you can watch a video online (e.g. YouTube) you can access a video consultation.
A well-lit room, where you won’t be disturbed.
One of these:
- Google Chrome web browser on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone
- Safari web browser on an Apple iMac, MacBook, iPad, or iPhone
Web camera, speakers and microphone – these are already built into laptops, smartphones and tablets.
If possible, you should be connected to your home or work Wi-Fi to avoid using your mobile data allowance.
How much internet data will I use?
You don’t use any data while waiting for a clinician to join you. A video consultation uses a similar amount of data to Skype® or FaceTime®.
How much does a video consultation cost?
The video consultation is free (except for your internet usage).
How do I access my video consultation?
Once your appointment has been booked, you will be sent a link to access your own private online video consultation room that only you and your healthcare professional can enter.
When your appointment is due, all you need to do is click on the link. You will then be given access to the appropriate video consultation room to start your appointment
